Last October 19 & 20, 2016, the BJMP Region VIII was visited by the Chief BJMP himself, J/DIR SERAFIN P BARRETTO JR.
Morning in the 19th of October, 2016, J/DIR SERAFIN P BARRETTO JR., arrived at the DZR Airport San Jose Tacloban City where he was welcomed by J/SSUPT EFREN A NEMENO, Regional Director, together with his staff and personnel. He then immediately went to conduct jail inspection at Sogod District Jail, Afterwhich, the team proceeded at Brgy. Tunga- Tunga Maasin City where a 3- Day Community Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) using the BJMP's Therapeutic Community Modality Program (TCMP) approach was being conducted.This is the one of the BJMPs' contribution to President Duterte's war against drugs and the DILG's MASA MASID (Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Anomaliya Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Iligal na Droga) Program. With the objective of the Regional Director J/SSUPT EFREN A NEMEÑO, for BJMPROVIII to become 100% TCMP jails and extend this to the community, thus this training came to light.The BJMP Region VIII became the pioneer among all other regions in the application of this rehabilitation program to the community with Brgy. Tunga- Tunga, Maasin City as the first benefactor. J/DIR SERAFIN P BARRETTO JR., Chief BJMP, the brainchild of this program graced in the said activity. This was one of the highlights during his visit in the region. He then observed the conduct of the CBRP and gave his inspiring message
Six (6) other jails namely; Maasin City Jail, Baybay City Jail, Ormoc City Jail, Carigara District Jail and Palo Municipal Jail were visited by the Chief BJMP. The said visit was to oversight the intensified nationwide campaign on Illegal Drugs thru various programs he is currently implementing to all jails nationwide- OPLAN RODY, SULONG PA BJMP and SALAMAT BJMP, to name a few.
During his visit to every jail, he conducted management meetings to his personnel and answered queries. There, he mentioned among others the promotion system that his leadership will be implementing, stating that it should be more of the merit and fitness rather the seniority to encourage all to perform well in their respective jobs. He also enjoined all personnel to actively participate and support the programs of the bureau. The jail facility was also inspected by the Chief BJMP, checked the status of inmates and the implementation of various Inmates Welfare and Development programs such as the TCMP and livelihood activities to name a few. He then acclaimed our Regional Director for the conduct of the Financial Literacy Seminar and such other seminars which are beneficial to the needs of our personnel in terms of practical knowledge and skills training. He placed an emphasis for this to be replicated by all Regional Directors nationwide.
A surprised drug test was conducted by J/SINSP TADDEO SAN GABRIELLE, MD, Chief Health Service to all personnel during his visit at Ormoc City Jail and Tacloban City Jail and even the Chief BJMP himself gave his urine sample for drug testing.
The BJMP8 Canine Unit was also visited at around 20 1320H October which was based near Palo Municipal Jail. The establishment of K-9 drug interdiction teams is one of the programs under Offensive Operations versus Illegal Drug Trade inside the Jail Facilities in line with the program "OPLAN RODY".
His visit was successfully sealed through an Exit Conference at the BJMP Regional Office VIII last October 20, 2016. This was attended by the J/SSUPT EFREN A NEMENO, DPA, TLPE, Regional Director, Jail Wardens from the Samar Province and Southern Leyte and Regional Office VIII Staff and personnel.
Indeed, it was a great privilege for all personnel of the BJMPVIII to be the first region to be visited by the Chief BJMP.
