At dawn break of August 01, as the ray of light from the mightiest star began to seep into the City that was still enveloped with darkness, twenty-two (22) jail officer bike riders who wishfully be called themselves as "BJMP 8 Safekeepers " led by J/SUPT RILL F FABELLA, and J/SUPT PETER D BONGNGAT JR, Jail Warden of Tacloban City Jail-MD gathered around the Tacloban City Convention Center (Astrodome) to join in the BJMP's 9th Annual Regional Sportsfest. Leisurely, the approximate 30km long Bike Fun Ride which ended at Leyte Provincial Sports Complex has served as the kick-off activity of the occasion.

Showcasing the Sayaw Kontra Droga Campaign formally opened the program which was hosted by JO1 Michael John Avelino and JO1 Charisse Mhey Marabe. J/INSP JESSIE BAQUILOD, J/INSP MA. NEMIA C LOPEZ, SJO4 Fe Reynalda Chan and JO2 Dalmacio S Canayong Jr., were the lucky ones who got awarded for having displayed their innate grace as they perform the BJMP's anti-illegal drug dance campaign.

Previous Regional Director, J/SSUPT EDWIN B RIEL and J/SUPT AMBROCIO AMBULAN, ARD for Administration, J/SUPT MANUEL O CHAN JR, ARDO, J/SUPT BENEDICTO D CATUDIO JR.,RCS, all Jail Wardens and BJMPRVIII personnel graced the occasion.

First of the 2-day affair, four (4) teams (Tangerine, Green, Red and Violet) composed by personnel from Biliran, Leyte, So. Leyte, Samar, Western, Eastern and Northern Samar Provinces as well as from the Regional Office gallantly displayed and contended their physical strength in variety of games such as Basketball, Volleyball, Track & Field, Table Tennis, Badminton and Chess.

A satiable celebration transpired on the second day of the affair, as the Green Team, comprised of personnel from Ormoc CJ, Maasin CJ, San Juan and Sogod DJ bagged the Over-All Championship Award.

At the end of the day, it was everybody who was supposed to be considered as the over-all-winner. After all, winning was not solely measured based on the raw scores garnered but more on with the manner of how the "Safekeepers'" played their games, their character in carrying out the real meaning of Sportsmanship - friendship, solidarity and fair play among themselves, the ultimate purpose of every fest in any sport.
