Marriage, a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life; a commitment to live together as husband and wife in sickness and in health, to observe mutual love, respect and fidelity, and, to render mutual help and support. It was in this premise (hopefully), that twenty-four (24) detainees of Tacloban City Jail-Male Dormitory finally tied the knot with their partners/girlfriends on 24 August 2017 in a Kasalang Bayan (Mass Wedding) held at the Gymnasium of the said jail facility.
The ceremony was solemnized by Hon. Ma. Cristina G. Romualdez, Tacloban City Mayor, who, in her message, emphasized the great role that the family plays in our society more specially in the well-being of the incarcerated loved ones. J/SSUPT FELIXBERTO S JAGORIN, BJMP-RO8 Regional Director, and J/SUPT PETER D BONGNGAT, JR., MPA, the Jail Warden, likewise bear witness to the exchange of vows of the twenty-four (24) newly-wedded couples.
The Kasalang Bayan was made possible through the partnership of the jail's management and the Tacloban City Office of the Civil Registrar headed by Mrs. Imelda A. Roa.
These couples, being now legally married, can avail, if they so choose, the coveted special conjugal visit which is a visit by the wife or husband to a detained spouse in jail for a short period, usually an hour, in which period they are allowed privacy and is generally understood to include sexual contact. The BJMP policies governing such visits are strictly observed in the jail facility.
