It was only just the beginning. In the 1st quarter of 2019, the BJMP Region VIII has launched the Adopt-A-Park Program with the theme, “Environmental Development to combat Global Warming and Intensively save Mother Nature” to answer nature’s call for rehabilitation, development, and preservation. The response of the jail units and the different stakeholders who willingly joined the cause was overwhelming that it positively fueled for more efforts to make this possible. Hence, several related activities were organized out of this commitment and more external relationships fostered.

For BJMP Region VIII, we were delighted to have guaranteed a relationship with the Community Environmental and Natural Resources Office of Region VIII and the Local Government of Brgy. Baras, Palo, Leyte aimed at one single goal, which is to save and preserve what is left of our natural wealth. On 03 May 2019, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed by all parties, initiated by the BJMP Regional Office VIII thru JCSUPT EDWIN BADILLA RIEL, DSC, Regional Director of the Jail Bureau. The LGUBaras and CENRO-Palo agreed that the BJMP RO VIII adopt a specified area which it can ensure rehabilitation and preservation by establishing and maintaining the fast-growing and indigenous trees in the area, and also thru other related activities. The LGU-Baras and CENRO-Palo have also pledged to support the Region with necessary provisions as specified in the contract.

There is no other perfect time to plant trees but now. Studies may say it’s a bit late, but there is no wrong in trying because you can never know what difference it can make, no matter how big or small it may be.
